Caitlyn Fung

Position title: Undergraduate Research Student

Caitlyn is an undergraduate majoring in biochemistry and life sciences communication. She has previously conducted research in Dr. Nathaniel Sharp’s and Dr. Judith Smith’s labs, working on projects involving evolutionary genetics and immune responses related to the unfolded protein response. She also had the opportunity to work at the Rotenberg Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she focused on advancing knowledge of Succinic Semialdehyde Dehydrogenase Deficiency. Currently, at the Caballero-Flores Lab, she is excited to conduct research in areas related to host-pathogen-microbiota interactions.

Outside the lab: Caitlyn is an active member of the UW-Madison figure skating team and can often be found at the rink or staying active. She also enjoys watching and attending sports games.

Guilty pleasures: Spending way too much money at Dunkin’ Donuts (proudly Boston born and raised), binge-watching crime and investigative TV shows, and drinking too many cans of Celsius.
